Istanbul is a charming, an enchanting, and (as always mentioned) an exotic city. But how are the artists and especially photographers’ positioning themselves outside the discourse of an orientalist perspective? What does it mean to be an artist from Istanbul? Even though Istanbul has a vibrant art scene, the position of art photography is difficult, between the traditional art market, photography as visual communication and a few contemporary curators.
From this perspective, we want to talk about alternative practices of photography from Turkey without cultural prejudice and orientalist approach. The talk will bring together photographers from Turkey – especially from Istanbul.
With Gözde Güngör, Gülbin Özdamar Akarçay and Göksu Baysal, moderator Tuce Erel.
